  • 1 cup rice
  • ½ cup Arhar dal/ Tuvar dal/ Yellow Indian Lentils
  • 1 tsp of Khadeshi Masala powder
  • Pinch of hing/ Asafoetida
  • ½ tsp jeera
  • ½ tsp rye/ black mustard seeds
  • Pinch of haldi/ turmeric
  • Red chilli powder and salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • One Onion
  • Half/ one tomato
  • 5 flakes of garlic- smashed
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

watch Method:

  1. Wash the dal and rice together- keep aside. Take two tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker and heat – add a pinch of hing, then add jeera and rye. Let it crackle and  add the onions – fry for 10 mins, then add garlic- stir in for 3-4 mins, then add tomatoes and cook for another 5-7 mins. Add little warm water if required.
  2. Then add the dal and rice and stir in the khandeshi masala, red chilli, haldi. Open cook for 2-3 mins in the pressure cooker. Then add 4-5 cups of warm water and close the cooker. Cook for about 10 mins
  3. Add coriander leaves and serve hot.
